My husband was admitted to the hospital for brain swelling. The doctors gave him Sodium Chloride 3% Inj, 500ml intravenously to quickly raise his sodium levels. It seems scary, and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this medication or if the doctors are overreacting. Is this treatment standard? How does it pulled water out of the brain cells to reduce swelling? Any input on this experience would be greatly appreciated; I'm really worried.
