My husband was admitted to the hospital for brain swelling. The doctors gave him Sodium Chloride 3% Inj, 500ml intravenously to quickly raise his sodium levels. It seems scary, and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this medication or if the doctors are overreacting. Is this treatment standard? How does it pulled water out of the brain cells to reduce swelling? Any input on this experience would be greatly appreciated; I'm really worried.

I'm not a doctor, but I had a similar experience with a family member. The doctors explained that it pulls water out of the brain cells to reduce swelling. It's a serious situation, but the treatment is common in such cases. I hope your husband has a smooth recovery!

My neighbor’s kid had the same thing. He went through it and was back to normal in a couple of weeks. Not sure about the details, but it worked! I think you're in the right place.

I work in healthcare, and I can confirm that Sodium Chloride 3% Inj is used to treat severe hyponatremia, especially when it's causing serious issues like brain swelling or seizures. This medication must be administered under strict medical supervision. It helps to pull water out of the brain cells by creating an osmotic gradient, which reduces swelling and relieves pressure. It is crucial to monitor your husband closely during and after treatment.

What an awful situation! This is an extreme measure, so it might make you feel better knowing that you are in good hands.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. Sodium Chloride 3% Inj can have serious side effects, like allergic reactions, fluid and electrolyte problems, and skin infections. Make sure the medical team is monitoring him closely for any adverse reactions. Also, keep in mind the other side effects like irritation, swelling, or pain at the injection site.

If his brain is swelling, this sounds like to be a last resort. Have you considered getting a second opinion? I know it helps my mum when she was going through a lot of shit with the doctors.

Hmm, this sounds serious. Did the doctors explain how the Sodium Chloride 3% Inj works? It's a strong salt solution used in emergencies to raise sodium levels quickly. It can be a bit scary, but it's crucial in these situations.

Hang in there. The NHS has published a paper on it. Here's a link to it

That's scary, but it sounds like the doctors know what they're doing. Sodium Chloride 3% Inj is typically used in emergency situations to quickly address low sodium levels in the blood. The med is designed to pull extra water out of the brain cells, reducing the swelling.

I've seen this used as a last resort for severe brain swelling, and it's important to follow the doctor's orders. However, it's not a cure-all. At your level, just have to hope it works. It's scary, but you're in good hands. He'll be fighting for his life.
