Dextrose 5%/NaCl 0.3% Inj, 500ml: 'Sugar Water with a Little Salt' - What You Need to Know

I've been admitted to the hospital a few times and have received Dextrose 5%/NaCl 0.3% Inj, 500ml IV fluids. It's essentially 'sugar water with a little salt,' used to keep you hydrated and provide some energy. I've never had any serious side effects, but I've heard others talking about some scary stuff like allergic reactions and more. What are some of the serious side effects to look out for? If someone has experienced adverse reactions, I'd love to hear about it. And how does everyone else feel about this mix being used as the default IV fluid in hospitals? Is it really the best option for most patients?
