First Time Bike Tour in Leh Ladakh: What to Expect and How to Prepare
I'm planning my first bike tour in Leh Ladakh this summer and I'm a bit nervous. I've done some research but I'm still not sure what to expect. How challenging is the terrain? What kind of bike is best for this region? Any tips on acclimatization and packing would be greatly appreciated! Also, any recommendations for local guides or tour operators would be a huge help. Thanks in advance!

Altitude sickness is no joke. I would consider getting some medication from your doctor before you go. Water & tea are readily available. Cost is low, even though cuisines is not diverse.
I'm having a hard time envisioning you biking there. I've seen the videos. Maybe it's good for a bonding experience with your lady.
Don't underestimate the altitute. It got me on day 2. I just couldn't catch my breath. Here's what I did, and it worked for me; I took it easy for the day and drank lots of water. Watch the sun exposure. Once you're acclimated, you can go.
A Royal Enfield is more than appropriate for the area. The tour operators know a thing or two. Make sure you get the right tires and know how to change a tire. There are plenty of guys around to help if you need it, but expect to wait a bit.
Leh Ladakh is an incredible place to bike, but it's definitely not for beginners. Make sure you're in good shape and have some mountain biking experience. The terrain is tough, with lots of high-altitude climbs and rocky trails.
I disagree with the idea that it's not for beginners. I did it with my family on our honeymoon, and we had a fantastic time. We had a tour guide and we took it easy. We loved it so much we are thinking of doing another bike trek through the southern states next summer.
Totally do it! Just make sure you're prepared for the weather. It can change quickly, and it's cold at night. Layers are key. I recommend the local Ladakh tour company for the price and equipment they carry.
I did a bike tour there last year and loved it! Definitely get a good mountain bike with wide tires for the rocky terrain. Also, give yourself a few days to acclimatize to the altitude before you start your tour.
