I was prescribed Neo/poly/hc 1% Otic Sol Blue to treat an ear infection. I started using it a few days ago, and now I'm noticing some rashes, and hives around my ear and my neck. I've reread the leaflet, and I think I may be having an allergic reaction as described. I haven't started nursing my newborn yet, so I don't want to risk my health. I know that allergic reactions can be serious, but could I be overreacting? Also, should I stop using the drops immediately? Is it possible that this medication is giving me hives without being a full-blown allergy? I’m a little freaked out right now.

I know someone that had a really bad reaction to ear drops. She had to go to the ER, and they couldn't even tell if it was just the infection or the drops that did it. The doctor told her that these reactions are very rare, but if you're worried, you should go to the hospital right away.

I had a similar reaction to a different antibiotic. It's scary, but you should definitely stop using it and contact your doctor immediately. Allergic reactions can escalate quickly.

Have you checked with your doctor if you can use some other medicine? I had a similar thing for my ear infection last year.

Ear infections are the worst. I wouldn't risk it if you think it's an allergic reaction. Better safe than sorry.

You might want to consider another route; some people have a lot of pain with this. Of course, you should consult with your doctor about what to do or if there are any other options you can go with.

I've heard stories of people having serious reactions to these drops, we've had to make trips to the hospital for sweating fits and hives that felt like burning. If you've got a known allergy, be careful.
