Accutane (Isotretinoin) is a powerful medication used to treat severe acne that hasn't responded to other treatments. It works by reducing the amount of oil your skin produces, which helps clear up acne and prevent future breakouts. However, because it can cause serious birth defects, women who can become pregnant must follow strict rules, including using two forms of birth control and registering with a special program called iPLEDGE. The side effects of Accutane can range from minor discomforts like dry skin and lips to severe and potentially life-threatening conditions. This thread is to discuss the various side effects, their management, and the importance of adhering to the strict guidelines provided by the FDA. I have been on Accutane for a month now, and I must say, the dryness is real. I'm using a heavy-duty lip balm and moisturizer constantly. Anyone else struggling with this? The iPledge program was also a bit of a hassle to get into, but I understand the importance of it. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the effectiveness of Accutane and how you've managed the side effects. Have you had any severe reactions or know someone who has? If so, please share your experience and any advice you might have for others considering this medication.

I’ve been off Accutane for a few months now and my skin is completely clear. It was a long journey, but completely worth it. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I have no side effects now. Best decision I've ever made! Worth every penny!

I've been on Accutane for two months, and while the dryness is tough, I've found that using a heavy-duty moisturizer and lip balm helps a lot. I also make sure to drink plenty of water. The iPledge program was a bit of a hassle to get into initially, but it's manageable now. I've seen a significant improvement in my acne, so I'm sticking with it.

I've actually used all three forms of birth control while on Accutane just to be safe. It's a hassle, but better safe than sorry. Plus, I've heard horror stories about what can happen if you get pregnant while on it. It’s definitely not worth the risk. Has anyone else done this?

I've had some mild side effects like dry skin and joints, and some nosebleeds, but nothing too bad. I'm on month 3 and my acne has improved a lot. My doctor said to keep going and it should be gone by the end of treatment. Just need to keep hitting the moisturizer.
