In a devastating turn of events, 21-year-old Alexander 'Zander' Philogene passed away just hours after experiencing symptoms of Meningococcal B, a disease often mistaken for the flu. Zander, a senior at an Australian university studying finance and chemical engineering, was traveling through Europe while studying abroad in Austria. He contracted the dangerous disease upon his return to Vienna from Porto, Portugal. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of recognizing and responding to the symptoms of Meningococcal B. Early detection and treatment are crucial, as the disease can progress rapidly and be fatal if left untreated. Many students and travelers may overlook the symptoms, attributing them to common ailments like the flu or a stomach bug. It is imperative to raise awareness about the signs of Meningococcal B, which can include fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, and a rash. If you or someone you know exhibits these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention. Let this be a reminder to prioritize your health and the health of those around you, especially when traveling or living in close quarters like dormitories and study groups.

I think this should serve as a wake-up call for everyone to prioritize their health and make sure they get vaccinated. This could have been prevented if he had gotten the vaccine. I think it would be great if universities made it a requirement for students studying abroad, and I hope the university takes this as a lesson to do so. In the meantime, I feel like the best way to honor Zander's legacy is to spread awareness and encourage people to protect themselves.

I can't believe how quickly this happened. I had heard about a similar case where a student died within 24 hours of showing symptoms. This should prompt authorities in universities to be more proactive in their health safety measures and inform all students about the vaccine because it is not required in most places, even though it should be.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. I had no idea that Meningococcal B could be so deadly. I thought it was just a more severe form of the flu.

I had no idea this was a thing. I always thought meningitis was just a random thing that happened to kids in schools. I hope that this brings awareness to everyone to make sure to get vaccinated. RIP Zander.

This is a sobering reminder to check your vaccinations, especially if you're traveling abroad. I wonder if the university had any health advisories or required vaccinations for studying abroad.

Getting vaccinated for Meningococcal B is so important, especially for college students and anyone traveling. It's a quick and easy way to protect yourself and those around you, so it would be great to see more universities making it mandatory for students studying abroad.
