I've been using Acyclovir 5% Ointment 15gm for a few weeks now to treat my cold sores and genital herpes lesions. It's supposed to stop the herpes virus from replicating, but I'm not sure if I'm seeing real results or just a placebo effect. Has anyone else used this ointment and had similar experiences? I'd love to hear from those who have had both good and bad experiences with it. The side effects list is pretty scary, but I haven't experienced anything so far except for a little skin irritation and some itching. Is anyone else dealing with these side effects or any of the more serious ones?

I get severe skin irritation and burning sensations, it is quite uncomfortable

I just want to remind everyone that this stuff doesn't cure herpes, it just manages the symptoms. It's important to be realistic about expectations. You have to apply it five times a day, it's a pain in the butt, but worth it to avoid the pain of an outbreak

I got this in my herpes simplex virus diagnosis kit and it was a godsend. It might be a bit uncomfortable at first but it works wonders. I've dealt with the itching and burning but it was better than the alternative

I've had bad experiences with it in the past and have also tried Zovirax and Valtrex. I'm hoping that if I mix acyclovir ointment with a skin cream, it will soothe the irritated skin

I had some skin irritation but nothing crazy. It's better than dealing with a full blown cold sore outbreak though
