I've been prescribed Allopurinol 200mg Tablets for high levels of uric acid, and while it has helped with my gout symptoms, I've noticed some mild side effects like drowsiness and an upset stomach. I'm curious to hear from others who have taken this medication. How common are these side effects, and has anyone experienced any severe reactions? Also, any tips on managing the side effects would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been taking Allopurinol for a few months now, and while I haven’t experienced any severe side effects, I did have some mild stomach upset. My doctor recommended taking the tablets with food, and that seemed to help a lot. Anyone else have tips for managing side effects?

I've had some really bad reactions to Allopurinol to the point I had to stop taking it. I started to notice blood in my urine and really bad pain in my back and abdomen. After a trip to the ER they did tests for kidney stones and told me to stop the medication immediately. I tried to give it a couple more months, but I had similar symptoms, so I am thinking of trying a new medication my doctor prescribed.

It's funny how differently we can all react to the same drug. I've had no side effects, but a friend had some that are causing him to look for an alternative.

keep up that caution, even thinking about an allergy test before trying it can save you a lot of trouble later.

I've had a great experience with Allopurinol. No side effects at all, and my gout symptoms have been much better. Just remember to stay hydrated and drink lots of water, and I haven't had any problems.

Everyone's experience with medication is different, but it's important to listen to your body and stay informed. I've had anxiety that it may cause on my liver over the longer term, but my doctor did regular checks, so we caught it before it became a problem. Just make sure you are diligent with any medications!

I've been on Allopurinol for about a year now, and while it has helped with my gout, I did experience some bad side effects. About 3 months in, I noticed a rash and some swelling. I thought I might be allergic to the medication, but after consulting my doctor, it turned out to be a mild skin reaction and I was prescribed an antibiotic to help. The rash went away after a few weeks, but it was a scary experience. I'd recommend keeping an eye out for any signs of severe skin reactions if you're taking this medication because they can be life-threatening.
