I was prescribed Amox-Clav 250mg/5ml Susp 75ml for a nasty infection, and I'm trying to figure out what to expect. The docs say it's great for bacterial infections, but I'm a bit worried about the potential side effects. I've heard horror stories about severe allergic reactions and liver problems. How common are these? Are there any tips for managing the side effects? I'm really hoping to avoid that C.Diff diarrhea...yikes. Anyone have experience with this medication?

I had a bad reaction to Amoxicillin before, and I was scared to take this. I went ahead with it, and unfortunately, I had an allergic reaction. It started with a rash then, when that started to blister, I went to the hospital and the doctors told me it was Stevens-Johnson syndrome. I had to quit taking the medication immediately and start intake of corticosteroids. I'm not sure if I had a higher risk of this because of my past amoxicillin reaction. It was so scary and the doctors were on high alert. This isn't worth the risk and if I had kids, I would tell them to ask for an alternative or make sure the doctor tells you to take it with food.

Passed out when I tried taking it on an empty stomach. It made me faint. Can't recommend this too much. I think I have nausea now too!!

This stuff is rough on your system. Make sure you finish the course even if you feel better, though. It's important to kill off all the bacteria.

I got prescribed this for my toddler's ear infection and the taste is horrible. He's been puking all over the place. Another parent recommended mixing it with something sweet (like yogurt or a small amount of chocolate syrup) so I'm going to try that. I've also been told to finish the full course as well so I just have to push on.

My doctor told me to avoid alcohol while on this. Guess I'll be sticking to soda for a while.
