I'm scheduled for a procedure soon, and my doctor mentioned using Xylocain/epinephrine 0.5% Inj, 50ml for local anesthesia. From what I've read, it's a combination of lidocaine and epinephrine to numb the area and reduce bleeding. Has anyone used this before? I'm a bit worried about the side effects, especially the more severe ones like allergic reactions or methemoglobinemia. Are these common or just rare possibilities? I'd appreciate any insights or personal experiences!

Methemoglobinemia is the scary one to look out for. It's pretty rare, but it can happen. Just be aware of the symptoms and you'll be fine.

The side effects can be scary, but they're pretty rare. I've had this done for a few procedures and never had any issues. Just make sure to follow your doctor's advice and you should be fine. It's also useful to talk to someone who has had the procedure done before, they can give you a lot of insight.

Epinephrine can be dangerous for people with certain conditions, like high blood pressure or heart issues so be sure to discuss any of your medical conditions with your doctor. They might need to adjust the dose or choose a different anesthetic. Also, if you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction, don't wait—seek medical help immediately. It's always better to be safe.

I'm glad to hear that the epinephrine helps reduce bleeding. That's definitely a plus. The doctor mentioned that it would also help the numbing effect last longer, which is great because I hate feeling like I'm missing half my face, but it's hard to find the right numbing and bleeding balance. It's good to know it helps with both!
