I've been dealing with cold sores for a while now, and my doctor prescribed Zovirax 5% Ointment for the first time. This antiviral ointment contains Acyclovir and is supposed to help heal the sores faster and reduce pain. I'm curious to know how well it works for others and what side effects you might have experienced. The description mentions possible skin irritation, burning, stinging, and itching, but I'm also concerned about the more severe allergic reactions. Has anybody had any issues with those? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences if you've used this before.

Zovirax is a lifesaver for me! I've tried other treatments, and nothing compares. It’s a bit pricey and you have to be careful not to use too much or too little, but it works!

Has anyone tried using Zovirax for genital herpes as well? I only used it for cold sores but am curious if it works just as well over there.

Be careful with side effects. I got some intense itching, but it went away after a few days. Always good to have a doctor on call.

Zovirax worked wonders for me! Applied it as soon as I felt that familiar tingling, and the cold sore never even fully formed. It’s great for prevention too, if you catch it early.

I've heard that applying Zovirax more than 5x daily can cause side effects. I stick to 4x a day and haven't had any issues. Maybe someone should ask the doctor about that.

Just a heads up, if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, don't mess around. I knew someone who had a bad reaction and had to be hospitalized. It's rare but it can happen.

I've always found Zovirax to be a bit of a hassle to use, especially when you're in a rush. But it does work. I'd recommend asking your doctor about any cheaper alternatives that do the same job.
