I've been prescribed Glydo 2% Gel to help with a procedure I'm about to go through. It's a topical numbing gel that I've never used before. It's supposed to make the procedure less uncomfortable, but I've been reading about the possible side effects, and it's a bit overwhelming. Has anyone else here used Glydo 2% Gel? Is it really as dangerous as the warnings make it out to be or is this just a lot of overreaction? I'd love to hear about your experience with it and if there are any tips or tricks for handling the potential side effects. How exactly does methemoglobinemia show up, and was it easily noticeable?

I've used Glydo a few times. It did the job for sure, but the side effects were no joke, plus the biggest thing to watch out for is changes in skin color. One time I felt really lightheaded and had ringing in the ears, it was pretty scary. The doc said it was minor and normal, but I kinda wish I had known this beforehand. Just keep an eye on those reactions.

My friend had a pretty bad experience with it. She ended up with a rash and her skin felt like it was burning. She had to stop using it and switched to a different medication.

I’m glad you’re seeking advice on this. It’s kinda crazy to think that the stuff doctors give us for pain relief can have such drastic effects. Do any of you guys know if you can alternate Glydo 2% Gel with other medications for relief?

Respiratory problems are one of my biggest fears. I had some issues with breathing a few years ago, and ever since it’s been a concern of mine. I had to stop using Glydo 2% Gel and just use a basic topical anesthetic for dental work after that. If you've had breathing problems before, it's worth talking to your doctor about it.

I think the rare but serious side effects are scary for sure, but often the long list of potential side effects includes stuff that happens to almost everyone at some time. I've had it for a few years and got used to it

It's a bummer to hear about your negative experience with Glydo. But, if it helps at all, I had a similar reaction. I think it can vary greatly from person to person,so talk to your doctor! I ended up getting some relief from itching and swelling by taking an oral antihistamine.

I've had no problems with it. I used it for a GI procedure and it was a lifesaver. I didn’t experience any numbness or tingling, thankfully.

Just a heads up from my own experience: don't be surprised if you feel a bit of numbness. The gel does work!

I wonder how the severity of the procedure affects the side effects. Anyone know if you need more or less gel based on the type of procedure?
