I was prescribed Neo/poly/bac Ophth Oint to treat a bacterial eye infection, and while it seems to be working, I've been experiencing some worrying side effects. The ointment contains bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B, which are supposed to kill various types of bacteria. However, I've been dealing with some severe eye irritation and a bit of eye discharge. I'm not sure if these are normal or if I should be worried. Has anyone else had similar experiences? The urgent side effects list is a bit scary, and I'm not sure if these symptoms fall into that category. Just want to know if I should call my doctor or tough it out. Also, if anyone has had any other weird side effects, I'd love to hear about them and if they were managed in any effective way. Also, does anyone know how to report side effects to the FDA? I looked it up, but it's not clear to me so far.

I had some pretty bad reactions to this stuff, never again. I just do warm compresses and eye drops now. They work just as well.

While the FDA guidelines are pretty confusing, it looks like you can call 1-800-332-1088 or go to the FDA website and report side effects to the MedWatch program.

I think you should call your doctor. It might be nothing, but better safe than sorry.

Saw this thread and just had to chime in. Did your doctor tell you to keep your eyes closed after using it? It's really important to do that, it'll keep it from overexposure.

I had a similar reaction, it went away after a few days. It was a bit scary at first, but you can probably manage with some eye drops to rinse it out. I think it should go away soon. Don't worry too much, but keep an eye on it just in case.
