I've been taking Siltussin SA 100mg/5ml Syrup for the past few days to deal with some nasty chest congestion, but the label scared the hell out of me. The bullet-pointed severe side effects section has me really concerned. It mentions things like rashes, hives, itching, blistering skin, and even some really alarming breathing issues. I've had some mild itching, but I can't tell if it's from the medicine. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? And, if so, what did you do? Did you stop taking it? Did you find a good alternative? They also talk about throat swelling and lung troubles. How do you know if it's serious, and not worth just a call to the doctor? My throat has felt a little tight, but I don't know if that's just from the congestion or the meds

I had no side effects and it helped clear up my congestion. It's a pretty standard expectorant, so it might be different for everyone. Also, why can't they make it taste better? :/

I took this last winter and had a weird rash. Didn't think much of it, but started taking Benadryl and it went away. Sounds like it could be a mild allergic reaction.

For me, the medicine was worth it to loosen the mucus and ease the congestion. I always double check my meds with a pharmacy on the phone just to make sure I don't miss anything..

The main goal of taking it is to get mucus out of your lungs, and it does help with that.

Don't worry about a little itching. You've got a serious cold so it is hard to tell what's meds or cold right now. Maybe it will be fine?!
