I've been prescribed Methenamine Mandelate 1000mg tablets to treat recurring urinary tract infections. The doctor explained that it works by releasing formaldehyde in the urine to kill bacteria, but I'm a bit concerned about the potential side effects. I've read that it's important to keep your urine acidic for the medication to work effectively, which makes me think I'll have to monitor my diet carefully. Has anyone taken this medication? What was your experience like? And did you have to do anything specifically to keep your urine acidic? I'd really appreciate some insights! Thanks.

I had a really bad reaction to this medicine. I'm glad it works for some people, but it was pretty awful for me. Ended up with a rash all over and had to stop taking it.

I've been on this for a few months now. It really helps to keep UTIs at bay, but you do have to drink a lot of water and avoid foods that make your urine alkaline.

I took this last year and it was a game-changer. But be prepared for some stomach upset at first. It's worth it in the long run.

Has anyone else had trouble with bladder pain while on this? I'm not sure if it's a side effect or if my UTI is just being stubborn.

I'm on my third round of UTIs and I think I'll ask my doctor about this one. I'm going to see if this helps or if I should look to something else.

This stuff is a lifesaver. I had chronic UTIs and this has been the only thing that's worked consistently. Just make sure you follow the diet and hydration guidelines.
