I recently started taking Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate Powder to manage my high potassium levels due to kidney issues. I was prescribed it as an emergency treatment but now I have to take it regularly. I'm curious to know if anyone else is on this medication and what their experiences have been like? I've been having some mild side effects like upset stomach and diarrhea, but nothing too severe. However, I'm a bit worried about the more serious side effects, especially the bowel issues. Has anyone else had bad experiences or any tips for managing these side effects? Also, does anyone know if there are any alternatives to this medication that might be gentler on the system?

I had really bad constipation on this drug. My doc switched me to a different medication, Patiramide, and I'm doing much better now. It's worth discussing alternatives with your healthcare provider.

I have a friend who takes this and she raves about how much it has helped her manage her potassium levels. She says the side effects are minimal compared to the benefits. Always good to hear success stories.

This drug saved my life. I had high potassium levels that were causing arrhythmias. I was in the hospital for a week and this medication brought my levels down quickly. It's not the best to take but it works. If you have questions, definitely talk to your doctor.

I had severe stomach pain with this one. My doctor told me to switch to a liquid version that might be easier to take. Give it a try if the powder version is too rough.

I've been taking this for a while and it's been a lifesaver. I've had minimal side effects, just a bit of an upset stomach sometimes. I think drinking lots of water and taking it with some yogurt helps a bit with the digestive issues.

I take it because of a bowel ressection and the potassium spikes are issue number two. The side effects are manageable, just took a while to get the dosage right. Best of luck to everyone else dealing with this!

I had no idea this medication had such serious side effects. My doctor never mentioned anything about bowel issues or electrolyte problems.
