I've been prescribed Benzonatate 150mg Capsules for a persistent cough. The description says it numbs the cough reflex, but I'm curious about the side effects, especially the urgent ones. Has anyone experienced any severe side effects like allergic reactions or hallucinations? How did you handle them? Also, are the other side effects like dizziness or drowsiness manageable?

I’ve been taking Benzonatate for a week now, and I haven’t experienced any serious side effects. For me, it’s been a lifesaver. Whenever I feel like I’m getting a cough, I take a capsule, and it goes away in a few minutes. I do try to avoid eating or drinking for a while just in case I get that tingling thing. Wish I'd known sooner - I'd've come straight to Benzonatate instead of trying other things.

My friend took Benzonatate and ended up in the ER with severe allergic reactions. I wouldn’t risk it again. I've been using honey and lemon instead. I know it doesn't work as well, but at least I don't worry about side effects.

I got the tingling sensation once, but it went away quickly. Just make sure to drink plenty of water and stay alert.

I've read that you should never chew or crush the capsule. It can cause numbness and tingling in the mouth and throat, which can be dangerous if you're not careful.

I've heard that people get a bit confused when they start taking it, but it went away for me after a day or so.

I had a pretty bad allergic reaction to it. Went to the ER, and they told me to never take it again. It's rare, but it happens.

This works well when you need to stop coughing quickly, but it's not a long-term solution. You might want to talk to your doctor about other options if your cough persists.

My doctor warned me about the potential for hallucinations. Fortunately, I didn't experience any, but it's something to be aware of.

Benzonatate worked great for me, but I did get a bit dizzy. Make sure to take it with food.
