I've recently come across Brevibloc (Esmolol) 10mg/ml Inj, 250ml, a fast-acting medication given intravenously to quickly manage heart rate or blood pressure. It's often used in emergencies or during surgery. The effects wear off very quickly once the infusion is stopped. I'm curious about the experiences of emergency medical professionals and patients who have had to use it. What are the immediate effects? Have you experienced any of the serious side effects listed, or have any tips to prevent them?.

I've seen it used a few times on patients who had tachycardia. It works super fast, almost immediately after the infusion starts.

My grandfather had a bad reaction to Brevibloc. He developed shortness of breath and swelling. It was scary, but the medical team handled it well.

I once heard a doc mention that the infusion needs to be closely monitored because if the medication leaks out of the vein, it can cause tissue damage. Always good to keep an eye out for any redness or swelling around the injection site.

Why can't these drugs have less serious side effects? I had a patient once who developed a rash and had to stop use.
