I've just started taking Mesna 400mg tablets along with my chemotherapy treatment, and I'm curious if anyone has any insights or experiences to share. Mesna is meant to protect my bladder from the harmful side effects of ifosfamide. I've read through the list of possible side effects, including severe allergic reactions and skin issues, and it's a bit overwhelming. Has anyone else experienced these problems, or is it generally well-tolerated? How do you manage the side effects, and have you found any tips or tricks to cope with them? Looking forward to hearing some real-world experiences and advice!

Stay hydrated! My doc said that drinking lots of water is crucial when taking Mesna. I also kept a log of my side effects. Helped me keep track and update my doctor during my visits.

I had some trouble with urination. I had to go to the hospital a couple of times because I couldn’t pass urine. It was scary, but my doctors knew what to do. They had to put a catheter in to drain my bladder. I wish I hadn't waited so long to go in.

I experienced some muscle cramps and weakness, which were pretty uncomfortable. My doctor said it was due to low potassium levels. I had to take potassium supplements and it helped a lot. It is also worth mentioning I was also on a high sodium diet at the time.

I had some weird tingling sensations and sensitivity to light. It was annoying but manageable. I wore sunglasses indoors and used a lot of moisturizer. It was an awkward look, but it helped!

It’s amazing how Mesna can neutralize those toxic substances. I felt way more comfortable knowing I was protected from bladder issues. I still had to be careful with my diet and hydration, though.

I had a friend who took Mesna and she ended up with a really bad skin reaction. She had to stop taking it immediately and switch to a different medication. Be careful and monitor any changes in your skin or mucous membranes.

I took Mesna during my chemo and it was a lifesaver for my bladder. No major issues, just some mild stomach upset. Drink plenty of water and it helps a lot! But keep an eye out for any signs of allergic reactions, they can be nasty.

My dad took Mesna during his treatment. He had a lot of nausea and vomiting, which was tough to handle. He was on anti-nausea meds, but they barely helped. His favorite trick was to chew on some ginger candy before each treatment.

I had no issues with Mesna. In fact, I had no side effects at all, but I kept a close eye on my body during the whole process. If I noticed anything unusual, even if it wasn't on the list, I would've called my doctor. It's better to be safe than sorry!
