Anyone have experience with Nitazoxanide 500mg Tablets for Cryptosporidium or Giardia?
I was prescribed Nitazoxanide 500mg Tablets to treat diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium. I've had it for a few days and I'm not sure what to expect. Does anyone have experience with this medication? How did it work for you? I'm a bit worried about the side effects, especially the more serious ones. Has anyone experienced any of them? I want to be prepared if anything comes up. Side effects are annoying but easier than living with the diarrhea. I had to take this once and my stomach pain was not fun. But better than the alternative. Good luck, hope you feel better soon!
I know of some people who experienced similar side effects, but they got better after finishing the course. Stay hydrated and listen to your doctor more than anyone else online. Hang in there!
I was prescribed this last month and I've had no side effects so far. Fingers crossed it stays that way. The only thing I've noticed is that my urine color changed a bit, but my doctor said that's normal with this med.
I wouldn't worry too much. I took it for a similar issue a while back and had no issues at all. Just make sure to follow the instructions to the letter. Don't skip any doses if you can help it. Finish the full course, no matter what.
I took Nitazoxanide for traveler's diarrhea (from Giardia) and it worked wonders. I had some stomach pain, but nothing major. Just make sure to finish the full course, even if you feel better. Don’t stop early!

I had a friend who took this and had no issues at all. Just don't forget to report any side effects to the FDA if they bother you. They need to keep track of these things, and it could help others down the line. Also– you’re not alone! I had to take it for a similar issue recently.
