I was recently prescribed nitrofurantoin (Nitrofurantoin 50mg/5ml Susp 60ml) for a urinary tract infection (UTI). I'm taking the 50mg/5ml suspension, and while I know it's to stop the growth of bacteria in my urine, I’m curious about others’ experiences. I’ve read that it can cause some side effects, especially if I don’t take it with food. Has anyone here had issues with stomach upset or other side effects? It's a bit scary reading about the potential for severe reactions, especially since I have some underlying health conditions. I just want to make sure I handle this medication with the right knowledge and precautions. Any insights or advice would be much appreciated. I’m also interested in knowing if anyone has tips for managing the taste or other practical tips for taking this medication.

I’ve taken nitrofurantoin a few times and it’s always worked well for me. I definitely recommend taking it with food to avoid stomach issues. I usually mix it with something sweet like apple sauce to make it more palatable. It's a bit of a hassle, but it's worth it to avoid the side effects.

I’ve been on nitrofurantoin before and it was a lifesaver for my UTIs. But I did have some dizziness and drowsiness, so be careful driving or operating heavy machinery. It’s nothing serious, but it’s good to be aware.

Be really careful with this stuff. I had a bad reaction and ended up in the ER with severe abdominal pain. Turns out it was pancreatitis. Not fun. If you feel any severe pain, get to a doctor right away.

This medication saved my life but I can’t believe how many side effects it has. I had diarrhea like crazy, but managed it with some over-the-counter meds. Be prepared for that!
