I've been struggling with psoriasis on my scalp for a while now, and my dermatologist recommended trying the Therapuestic 0.5% Coal Tar Shampoo. I've heard it can be a bit harsh, but I'm hoping it will help with the itching and flaking. Has anyone else used this shampoo? What were your experiences like? Did you notice any side effects, and if so, how did you manage them? I'm particularly concerned about the possibility of allergic reactions, so any advice on that front would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I got a patch test done by my dermatologist before using this shampoo, and it was a good thing I did. I didn't react to it, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I'd recommend doing that before you start using the shampoo. In case you see any irritation, don't wait, see your doctor.

I noticed some improvement around week 4, but it really kicked in after week 6. Stick with it, it might take a while to work!

I had a bad reaction to coal tar once. It's possible to be allergic to it. Not everyone can use coal tar shampoos or ointments. Talk to your doctor or dermatologist and read the labels before you try it.

I've used this shampoo for a few months now, and it's been a lifesaver. It did take a bit of time to see results, but my psoriasis has definitely improved. I did experience some irritation at first, but it went away after a couple of weeks. I just made sure to rinse it out thoroughly and used a moisturizing conditioner afterwards.
