I've recently been prescribed Trelstar Mix 11.25mg Inj for advanced prostate cancer. It's given by injection every three months and works by reducing certain hormones. I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects, especially the more serious ones like pituitary apoplexy and increased risk of heart attack. Has anyone else been on this medication? I'd love to hear about your experiences, both good and bad. Also, any tips for managing the side effects would be greatly appreciated. I've read that hot flashes and insomnia are common, so I'm trying to prepare for that. Thanks in advance for sharing your insights!

I'm really nervous about the pituitary apoplexy thing. I've never even heard of that before. If I get a sudden headache after my injection—what do I do? I hope it's not a big deal. I know that's not very reassuring, but it's all I got right now.

I had a friend who had a severe allergic reaction. It's rare, but it happens. Make sure you stay close to a phone when you get your injection, just in case. I would also consider carrying an EpiPen. I know that's extra, but it's also extra safety.

I was really nervous about the heart attack risk, but my doctor said that for most people, the benefits of the drug outweigh the risks, especially if you're also making lifestyle changes like eating better and exercising. I have found that I need to do a lot of mental preparations for the injections, there is no way around it.

My dad was on this and he had a rough time with muscle weakness. He had to use a walker for a while but eventually started getting better. I think he was also really struggling with mood swings.

I don't think it's worth it to worry about side effects you haven't had yet. Just take it one step at a time and talk to your doctor about any concerns. After all, he prescribed you the stuff, so you can trust him.
