I've been struggling with extremely dry, scaly skin for years, and my dermatologist recently prescribed Ammonium Lactate 12% Cream. I've seen some improvement, but I'm curious to hear from others who have used it, especially for conditions like ichthyosis. How has it worked for you? Any tips for application or dealing with side effects? I'm particularly interested in hearing if anyone has experienced any serious side effects or if it's generally well-tolerated.

It's crazy how the same product can work so well for some and be a nightmare for others. I hope everyone finds something that works for them.

I'm a pharmacist and I can tell you that the stinging is normal for some people. It's due to the lactic acid exfoliating the dead skin cells. If it's too uncomfortable, you can mix it with a regular moisturizer to dilute it.

Has anyone combined it with a humidifier to boost the moisturizing effects?

I've been using it for a few months now, and it's been a game-changer for my xerosis. No serious side effects, just a bit of stinging at first, but that went away. I apply it after a shower when my skin is damp.
