I've been prescribed Heparin Sod 5000u/ml Inj, 1ml to prevent blood clots after a recent surgery. The nurse explained that it thins my blood, making it harder for clots to form. I'm giving it to myself under the skin, as instructed. I'm curious if anyone else has had experience with this, especially with side effects. I know the urgent ones to look out for, but I'm also wondering about any other less serious side effects people might have encountered. Also, any tips for making the injections less painful would be greatly appreciated!

Heparin can cause some serious issues, so make sure you're monitoring for any signs of allergic reactions or unusual bleeding.

Be careful with bruising. I noticed some unusual bruises after starting Heparin, but my doctor said it was normal.

Make sure you're keeping an eye on any signs of infection at the injection sites. If you notice redness, swelling, or warmth that gets worse, talk to your doctor.

I heard about a weird side effect where your skin can change color at the site of the injection, which can be really worrying. It's something to keep an eye out for.

I’ve heard some people experience swelling at the injection site. If that happens, applying a warm compress can sometimes help reduce the swelling.

I've been on Heparin for a while now. The injection sites can get sore, but rotating sites has helped. Also, using a small amount of ice before injecting can numb the area.

How often are you injecting? I had to do it twice a day and it was a hassle but the doctors explained that it was the best way to keep my blood thin enough.

Don't forget to check with your doctor about any other medications you're taking. Some drugs can interact with Heparin.
