Just got an Omnipaque 300mg/ml injection for a CT scan. The doctor mentioned some serious side effects to watch out for, which got me a little worried. I've heard stories, so I want to know: What’s the worst that could happen? I am also curious to know if anyone here has experienced any side effects from this dye? I’m particularly interested in hearing about any rare or severe reactions. Also, any tips on what to do if you experience a reaction? How common are these side effects, and should I be worried? I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with the liquid formulation — did you have any issues with swelling? It’s all a bit overwhelming, but I want to be prepared.

Wow, all these stories are making me nervous. I can’t believe how varied the side effects are! Some are really scary, especially the skin reactions. Do they at least warn you before giving this stuff or is it just a shove the needle in and go?

I had an Omnipaque injection this year and ended up with hives and swollen skin. The weirdest part was it felt like my skin was on fire. I was lucky because the nurse noticed it quickly. I had to get Benadryl and some steroids to calm it down.

That’s scary, but true. The tingling in the spine can be scary, but it usually goes away. I know someone who had a reaction and it was horrible. They got severe skin problems and had to be hospitalized.

Don’t worry, it’s going to be fine. I had Omnipaque and my only issue was a headache right after. If it’s medically necessary, try not to stress too much about it. Just keep your doctor informed, and don’t hesitate to talk to them if you’re feeling at all unwell.

I heard a doctor say that this stuff can also cause thyroid problems, did anyone know that? It's strange how a dye can have such different effects on different people.

I saw a case where it caused severe dizziness. It was bad. Person had to be held down while the scan finished. Pretty scary stuff. My doctor said that if it happens, roll onto your side to ease the symptoms.

I had never heard of this drug before! I'm glad I can learn about it today. Thanks for sharing.

I didn’t know the thyroid problems thing. If any of you feel dizzy or nervous with sweats, I’d go to the doctor fast. It’s probably not thyroid related but better safe than sorry.

Sorry to hear that! It really sucks to deal with those side effects. But it’s good that you reacted quickly to treat it. Another thing to note: A friend of mine had a weird change in taste after getting this injection. They said it tasted like metal for a few hours. Weird, but not dangerous.

I've had Omnipaque a few times and never had any issues. But I've heard horror stories about allergic reactions. In general, it's important to stay calm and report anything unusual to your doctor right away. A friend had a weird tingling sensation in their spine, which is apparently a known side effect. They were totally fine after a while. It's good to be prepared, but try not to stress too much. If my healthcare provider said it was safe for me, I’d trust their judgment.
