I've been prescribed Benazepril/HCTZ 20/25mg Tablets for high blood pressure. I'm trying to understand the benefits and potential side effects better. The combination of an ACE inhibitor and a diuretic sounds effective, but what do I need to watch out for? Has anyone else taken this medication?

I switched to this combo from a different ACE inhibitor because my blood pressure was still high. The diuretic part helps reduce water retention but it depletes potassium in the body. I take potassium supplements on the side. I've found that drinking plenty of water and using a potassium supplement has really helped and I haven't experienced any serious issues yet.

Stay away from grapefruit juice. I made that mistake and it caused a bad interaction. Trust me, you don’t want to deal with that!

I've been taking these tablets for a year now and have only experienced minor side effects like dizziness and tiredness. I'm glad my doctor suggested this combo. Just make sure to stay hydrated and monitor your blood pressure regularly. Since I got on this prescription, I've started to consult with a nutritionist to adjust my diet and it's made a huge difference.

This thread is making me consider switching to a different medication. The side effects list is terrifying and I'd rather be safe.

I've been on this med for a few months now and it's helped lower my blood pressure significantly. The dizziness was a bit annoying at first but it went away eventually. Just make sure to stay hydrated!

I got a persistent cough with it and it was absolutely miserable. I switched to a different medication and it went away. My blood pressure is still controlled, so it was a good tradeoff for me.
