I've been taking Benazepril/HCTZ 5/6.25mg Tablets for about a month now to manage my high blood pressure, and while it seems to be doing the job, I've been experiencing some side effects that are concerning. I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else has dealt with similar issues and how they've managed them. The most troubling side effect for me has been severe dizziness, especially when I stand up too quickly. I've also noticed some mild fatigue and a persistent cough, which isn't great but isn't debilitating either. I'm a bit worried about the potential for more serious side effects, like kidney problems or allergic reactions, so I'm trying to stay on top of monitoring my symptoms. I've been drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding intense physical exertion, but I'd love to hear if anyone has tips or tricks to manage these symptoms better. Has anyone else had issues with the persistent cough, or were there any initial side effects that went away after a few weeks? Any feedback or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I've worked in the medical field for 20 years and seen a lot. Benazepril/HCTZ is generally effective, but the side effects can be tough. One thing I always tell patients is to keep a daily log of how they're feeling, and bring it to their doctor. It's hard to remember everything when you're in the office.

The persistent cough was the worst for me. I talked to my doctor, and he switched me to a different ACE inhibitor. I suggest talking to yours about other options if the cough is really bothering you.

I had a similar experience with the dizziness when I first started taking it. My doctor recommended increasing my salt intake slightly and getting up slowly to let my body adjust. It helped a lot!

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, but glad to hear you're sticking with it. My aunt went through some tough times with side effects, but she was able to manage them with some lifestyle changes and close monitoring by her doctor. Hang in there!

Dizziness and fatigue are common at first, but they should improve over time. Just take it easy and listen to your body. Sometimes it takes a few weeks to adjust to the medication.

Watch out for skin cancer! I started getting more sun-sensitive and ended up with a bad sunburn even after a short exposure. Also, I noticed some weird moles so I get checked regularly.

I've been on this med for a year and the cough went away after a few months. But I second the advice to get your doctor to look into other options if the cough is still bad. Also, track any changes in your vision—my friend had some weird eye issues and needed to get that checked out. Scary stuff.

Seriously, how bad is the persistent cough? For me, it was like someone was tickling my windpipe with a feather constantly. I can't imagine dealing with that for long.
