I've been struggling with cystic acne for years, and my dermatologist recently prescribed Benzamycin Gel. I've heard mixed reviews about it, so I'm curious if anyone else has had success with this topical treatment. The gel contains erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide, which are supposed to kill bacteria and unclog pores. I've used it for a week now and haven't seen any major improvements yet, but I'm hoping it just takes time for Benzamycin to work. Has anyone else had any side effects, like dry skin or irritation, or even allergic reactions? I'm worried because it can cause severe symptoms like diarrhea or bowl problems. Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated!

Keep in mind it takes some time to work. For me, it was about 3 weeks before I started to see a difference. For a little while, my skin was the worst it had been. But I stuck with it and was so grateful that I did!

I've had a couple of issues with it giving me an upset stomach. And then I noticed some stomach cramps. But I finally decided to stop using it outright when I had bloody diarrhea. Definitely scary -- go slow and keep an eye out for bad side effects.

I've had really good luck with it, but I did have to build up to using it more frequently. I started by using it every other day, then gradually increased to every day. That way, my skin had time to adjust to the new medication. I've also noticed that it's best to apply it at night, since benzoyl peroxide can bleach clothing and bedding. Just make sure to patch test and consult your doctor first, as well as avoid applying it to areas that are already irritated.

I've been using Benzamycin for a while now, but I've noticed that it really dries out my skin. I've had to start using a really heavy moisturizer to keep my skin from peeling. Plus, it has a harsh smell that can be pretty annoying. But it has helped clear up my acne, so I'm willing to deal with the drawbacks. I actually prefer it to some of the other benzoyl peroxide products I've tried.

Benzamycin gave me hives after the first application. I had a crazy allergic reaction, stopped using it, and went to the ER. Looked like a sunburn with blisters. Just be careful, especially if you're sensitive to antibiotics.
