I'm planning my first trip to Berlin and I've heard so much about the city's rich history, vibrant culture, and delicious food. I want to make the most of my time there, so I'm looking for tips from experienced travelers. What are the must-see attractions beyond the obvious like the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Wall? Any local spots for food or drinks? Also, I'm a bit of a night owl and want to experience Berlin's nightlife – any recommendations? Last but not least, what are some dos and don'ts when it comes to local customs and etiquette? I want to make sure I'm respectful and blend in as much as possible. Thanks in advance, everyone!

Is it true that they don't use soap in public bathrooms? My friend told me that, but I don't know if that's accurate.

If you like museums, you'll love Berlin. The Pergamon Museum and the Museum Island are must-visits. And don't miss the Holocaust Memorial – it's a powerful and moving experience.

Definitely visit the Jewish Museum and the Topography of Terror. Both are sobering but essential for understanding Berlin's history. And if you're into markets, the Markthalle Neun is amazing for food stalls and local produce.

Berlin's nightlife is legendary – you gotta hit up Berghain, but be prepared for the strict dress code. Techno lovers will also appreciate Watergate and Tresor. Just beware that some clubs can be quite crowded and the lines might be long so get there early or before the after hours.

Berliners are generally friendly, but they might come across as a bit reserved at first. Don't be put off – just give them some time to warm up. And always remember to signal when turning on a bike.

One thing to keep in mind is the public transport – it's efficient but can be confusing. Consider getting a Berlin Welcome Card for unlimited travel on buses, trains, and trams. And when you're out, always have some small change. You'll need it for public toilets and sometimes for smaller shops. Also, don't forget to try a local beer. Try the local craft brewery scene.

Definitely check out the East Side Gallery for some stunning street art along the remnants of the Berlin Wall. The Mauerpark Flea Market on Sundays is also a great spot for unique finds and local vibes. Don't miss the Currywurst – it's a Berlin classic!
