I'm planning a trip from Adelaide to Melbourne and I'm trying to decide on the best mode of transportation. I've heard good things about the train, but the plane seems faster. Has anyone made this journey by car? What were your experiences? How do you balance cost, time, and comfort? Any tips for making the most of this journey would be greatly appreciated!

I loved the train. I met some really cool people. The train trip from Adelaide to Melbourne is 14.5 hours but it felt like a fun party and we were having blackouts at times. Over night is good if you can snag a window seat. Dodgy wifi, an electrics power outlet and a few decent blankets. Nice on your wallet too.

FYI during holidays or school breaks, I'd recommend booking your transportation ahead of time. Flights can get really busy and expensive otherwise.

Save your time and book the plane! You can't see anything out the window anyway and it's way faster.

I've had my fair share of driving it. The road trip is pretty good. Biggest reason is the scenery. Good music - and good company and you can’t beat the view. Again, weather dependent.

I've done the drive a few times and it's beautiful but can be long, about 9+ hours. Make sure to stop in Mount Gambier or the Grampians for a break. Well worth the extra time though.
