Caffeine citrate is a medication often used to help premature infants breathe better and reduce episodes of apnea. It stimulates the baby's breathing center in the brain, making it a crucial treatment for many NICU babies. But like any medication, it comes with a list of potential side effects. As a parent of a preterm baby who received caffeine citrate, I've been through the rollercoaster of emotions and concerns. I'm curious to hear from other parents about their experiences, as well as any insights from medical professionals. What side effects did you observe? How did your baby's doctor manage them? Were there any long-term effects you noticed? Let's share our stories and support each other.

Feeling sluggish was the big one for our baby. The doctors assured me it was a common side effect, but it didn't make it any easier to see my baby lethargic. It all worked out in the end, though.

The seizures were the scariest part for us. Thank goodness the doctors were quick to respond and we knew what to look out for. The feeding problems were tough too, but we managed.

I'm so glad I found this thread. My baby is currently on caffeine citrate and I've been worried about the side effects. Thanks for sharing your experiences, everyone. It's really helping me stay positive.

I remember the nurses telling me that caffeine citrate can cause some temporary jitters in babies, but it's usually nothing to worry about. They just need to be monitored closely.

Our baby had some restlessness and frequent urination, but the doctors said it was all part of the process. We just had to be patient and vigilant. It's a tough road, but worth it to see our baby breathing better.

The big thing to remember is that caffeine citrate is a lifesaver for a lot of these tiny fighters. It's rough, but it's necessary. Stay strong, everyone!

Has anyone else noticed any long-term effects after the treatment? I'm just curious if there are any studies or data on this. Thanks!

I had no idea that vomiting could be a side effect. Glad I found this thread, but hoping I never have to deal with that on top of everything else. Fingers crossed for my little one.

My little one was on this for weeks. The feeding problems were real, but the doctors assured us it was normal. Just kept offering the bottle and we saw improvement.
