I've been using Calamine Lotion for a few days now to relieve the itching from some poison ivy. It seems to be working, but I can't shake off the lurking fear of potential side effects, especially the severe ones mentioned in the packaging. I’m curious to know if anyone else has had any weird reactions or if it’s generally safe for long-term use. The instructions mention that it works by drying out the affected area, but does that mean it can be harmful to return to the skin many times a day?

I’ve seen some really bad reviews and pictures online with allergic reactions. I personally have not used it so I can’t comment but please be safe, especially if you have sensitive skin.
I’ve heard it helps with chickenpox as well. What I’ve found is that applying a thin layer is key. Too much can irritate the skin further, I think. Also, you might want to avoid applying it near the eyes too much, although it’s safe for most skin types.
Definitely be wary of the allergic reactions. I had a bad experience with hives once and ended up going to the ER. It was scary and the ER visit was expensive. My doctor said it was rare but possible.
Read the label thoroughly before using. The last thing you want is to have an allergic reaction or worsen the irritation.
