I just received a prescription for Calcium Gluc 100mg/ml Inj, 50ml. It's for a family member who needs a quick calcium boost. The pharmacist mentioned some serious side effects to watch out for, which got me a bit worried. Has anyone had experience with this injection? How did it go? What should we be most concerned about, and how can we minimize risks?

I had to use this for a family member with very low calcium levels. It worked wonders but we had to be very careful with the administration rate to avoid any issues. The nurse explained that if given too quickly, it can cause flushing and low blood pressure.

This is used in the ER all the time for high potassium or magnesium overdose. It’s a lifesaver in those situations, but yeah, watch out for those urgent side effects. Especially the allergic reactions. They can be life-threatening.

I had a severe reaction to it once. Rash, hives, the works. Thankfully, they caught it early and switched to a different treatment.

My doctor mentioned calcium gluconate could cause confusion and headache if not administered correctly. Definitely keep a close eye on that.

Some constipation but nothing major. Just make sure to stay hydrated and it should be fine!

I’m a nurse and I’ve seen this used a lot. The key is to give it slowly to avoid tissue damage. But if you see any signs of an allergic reaction, stop the infusion immediately and call for help.

Wait, so this is the stuff they use for heart issues? Makes sense with the calcium part. But yeah, be careful with it.

I was given this during an emergency situation and it really helped stabilize my heart rate. No side effects but I was monitored closely the whole time.

This stuff is serious business. Make sure to have the doctor or nurse administer it if possible. I’ve heard horror stories about tissue damage at the injection site if not done correctly.
