Calcium Gluconate Injection 100mg/ml is a critical medication used to rapidly increase calcium levels in the blood, especially in emergency situations like severe hypocalcemia, hyperkalemia, or magnesium overdose. However, its side effects can be severe and even life-threatening. I've heard stories from nurses about serious reactions, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced or witnessed issues with this drug. What safety protocols should be in place? What are the signs to watch out for?

It's terrifying that this stuff can cause such severe reactions. But I guess in an emergency, you don't really have a choice. Just hope that the benefits outweigh the risks.

I've administered this drug a few times in the ER. Always make sure to dilute it and give it slowly to avoid those nasty side effects like flushing or a slow heartbeat.

My mom was given this during a bad reaction to another drug. She had some constipation, but nothing too bad. Just made her drink lots of water and eat more fiber.

This reminds me of the time I got tissue damage at the injection site from some other IV. It was painful and took a while to heal. I can't imagine how bad it would be with calcium gluconate.

I think the biggest issue is recognizing when calcium levels are too high. My doc told me about a case where a patient started feeling confused and had a headache after the injection. They had to treat the high calcium levels right away.

I think it's important to remember that while the side effects are serious, they are rare. But still, always be prepared and know the signs.

I had no idea this stuff had so many side effects. I've only seen it used for heart issues during a code, but now I'm wondering if it's worth the risk.

I had a patient who had a severe allergic reaction to this stuff. Red, swollen skin, and lots of itching. We had to stop the infusion immediately and treat the reaction. It was scary, but we caught it in time.

I've heard from a few nurses that the infusion needs to be monitored closely to avoid tissue damage at the injection site. The tissue damage causes severe pain and swelling and can be very uncomfortable for the patient.
