I started using Carac 0.5% Cream to treat actinic keratoses on my face and hands. The instructions said to expect some skin reactions, but I wasn't prepared for how intense it would get. My skin turned bright red and started peeling off in chunks. It was gross, but I stuck with it for the full treatment period. I'm curious if anyone else has gone through this and what your experience was like. Did you find it effective, and were the side effects worth it for you? I'm also interested in hearing if anyone had any serious side effects or complications. The package insert lists some scary stuff, so I'm hoping to get some real-world insights.

I had no idea this stuff was so intense. I really wish my doctor had warned me more about the side effects. The burning and itching were awful, but it did clear up the spots. It was almost like having a bad sunburn but from a cream

I don't know if I can handle another round of this. The skin reactions were so bad that I couldn't sleep on my face. It's been a month since I finished the treatment, and my skin is finally back to normal.

I used it on my scalp and it was a nightmare. My hair was falling out in clumps and my scalp was so sensitive. I had to stop using it after a week.

I had a friend who used Carac and ended up with a nasty infection. She had to go to the doctor and get antibiotics. Be careful and keep an eye out for signs of infection.

I had to stop using it after a week because the irritation was so bad. I'm scared to try anything else now. Does anyone know of any milder alternatives?
