Cefprozil 125mg/5ml Susp 100ml: My child's ear infection is causing me to lose my mind.
My 5-year-old has been diagnosed with an ear infection, and the doctor prescribed Cefprozil 125mg/5ml Susp 100ml. I've never heard of this antibiotic before, and I'm a bit concerned about the potential side effects. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? I want to make sure I'm prepared for anything. I'm also curious about the taste, as I've heard antibiotics can be pretty nasty for kids. Any tips on how to get my little one to take it without a fuss?

I've heard the taste can be pretty bad, but mixing it with a sweet fruit juice like orange juice really helps. Just make sure it's a good mixture and they drink it all.
Cefprozil is a good drug. I just hope that it works for your child. If it does give side effects, the urgency is important. I've heard of stomach pain and issue, so just double check to make sure there aren't any issues.
I was super nervous about the side effects too, but my pediatrician assured me that they are quite rare. He said if we noticed anything, to call him ASAP, but to feel confident about the treatment. It worked fine for us!
My kid hates it and we've learned to just take the medicine and play a game with it. We'll make it up into a game like drinking it quickly or trying to get it down in one go. It's more fun and the kiddo likes it!
Someone mentioned C. diff earlier. If your child has severe diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, or is actually sick, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO A DOCTOR'S OFFICE. The office will likely have their immune system down from the antibiotics and that could kill them and others. Call your doctor's office and talk to the nurse. They'll be able to guide you to the right place.
Cefprozil can be a wonderful antibiotic, but keep an eye out for any allergic reactions. My son broke out in hives, but fortunately, he was okay after we got him into the doctor. Really scary.
The worst part about these antibiotics is the constant need to get them to drink it. My daughter would cry every time. But it did the job to clear up her ear infection. Just keep at it!
I was really nervous about the side effects, but my kid didn't have any. Just make sure you finish the whole prescription. I've been through this before and if you don't, you end up back in the doctor's office.
