Chlorpromazine, a versatile medication used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe behavior problems in children, and even persistent hiccups, has been a staple in psychiatric care for decades. It works by affecting natural substances in the brain, helping to stabilize mood and reduce symptoms. However, its potency comes with a caveat: a laundry list of serious side effects that can be life-threatening. From allergic reactions to Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS) and Tardive Dyskinesia, the risks are real and potentially severe. Many patients and caregivers may be unaware of these dangers, relying instead on the promise of relief from debilitating conditions. But how do we weigh the benefits against the risks? What experiences have others had with Chlorpromazine, and how can we better navigate its complexities?

I have a friend who took chlorpromazine and had this weird, persistent hiccup and she said it was the worst she has ever experienced. My doctor gave me a sample of it to try, but it sounded too scary to risk it.

The list of side effects is insane. I mean, who knew it could cause menstrual changes or erectile dysfunction? It's like playing roulette with your health.

A friend of mine took chlorpromazine and gained a lot of weight, including enlarged breasts, and he had a hard time dealing with that hormonal change.

I've heard horror stories about Chlorpromazine, but I've also heard it can be a lifesaver for some people. My brother suffered extremely serious behavior problems and this drug was the only thing that worked for him. He'd be in prison or worse without it. It's all about finding the right balance.

I've never seen jaundice myself, but it is a symptom and someone who has jaundice is probably dying.

Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS) is no joke. I had a friend who ended up in the hospital with fever, muscle stiffness, and confusion. It was terrifying. If you or someone you know is on Chlorpromazine, please be aware of the signs.

I was on chlorpromazine for a while and I experienced dizziness and stiffness. I thought they would go away, but they didn't. I finally switched medications and I feel so much better. Just goes to show that everyone responds differently to medications.

My doc always makes sure to check for the signs of Tardive Dyskinesia during our appointments. If you have a hard time controlling your movements, the doctor needs to know immediately.
