I've been giving my 5 year old the fluoride chewable tablets, as recommended by the dentist, but I'm a little worried based on some of the side effects I've read about online. I've been reading that it can cause severe allergic reactions. Can anyone tell me more about this? What should I do if these symptoms appear?

I've also heard that it can cause a severe stomach upset and vomiting. Since I don't want to be in a situation where we are dealing with both tooth issues and stomach issues, I wanted to get some perspective from other parents who have dealt with this.. I know that this medicine can cause side effects, but I'm more worried about the potentially life-threatening ones. What would happen if my child's throat starts swelling or they start having trouble breathing?

I've looked at the bottle, the instructions, and even the website, but I'm still a little worried about what to do if these side effects occur. I want to make sure I'm prepared. I don't want to wait for it to get worse before seeking medical advice. I just want to get some extra reassurance from parents or professionals who might have dealt with this before. Thanks!

Don't panic. My child had a mild stomachache the first time we used them, but it went away quickly. Just keep an eye out for the really bad symptoms and you'll be fine.

My son had a bit of an allergic reaction to these tablets and we ended up having to go to the ER. The swelling in his throat was scary, but we got there in time. I can't stress enough how important it is to monitor your kids closely when they start this medication. We decided to stop giving it to him after that experience.

I had my kids on this and they didn’t have any issues, but I did keep Benadryl on hand just in case. It definitely helped me feel a bit easier about the situation. Always good to be prepared.

I've given my kids these tablets for years and never had any issues. Just follow the dosage instructions. I'm sure your kids will be fine.

The important thing to remember is that the serious side effects are extremely rare. Just keep an eye on your child for a few days after starting the medication. If you notice any swelling or breathing difficulties, don’t hesitate to go to the ER. It’s always better to be safe!

I've heard that some kids get weird skin reactions. Make sure to check for any unusual skin stuff. I guess you should always look out for the really bad stuff too.

They've worked well for my kids, but it's important to note that everyone's experience can be different. Sometimes a little stomach upset isn’t too bad, but if it becomes worse, call your doctor right away. It might not be worth the risk of going through all of these even if the side effects are rare.

If you're really worried, talk to your pediatrician about it. They might have some advice or alternative treatments that are safer for your child.
