I'm scheduled for an MRI of my liver and the doctor mentioned using Eovist to get clearer images. Has anyone had experience with this contrast dye? I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects, especially the severe ones. I've read about allergic reactions, kidney problems, and tissue damage at the injection site. Are these rare or happening more often? Also, what about the less serious side effects? Are they common? And how do they feel? How soon after injection do they usually happen? Does anyone know if there's a way to mitigate them? Thanks in advance!

Impossible to say how common the side effects are, but the doctor will be watching you the whole time while the medication is in effect. In the worst case you can get allergic reactions, but those are not common. If you notice any discomfort around the injection site then make sure to let them know.

Eovist can cause some weird stuff. I had a weird taste in my mouth for about an hour after. Not painful, just strange. But my MRI results were super clear, and that's what matters.

I work in radiology, and we see Eovist reactions fairly rarely. Most patients just feel a bit warm or have a metallic taste in their mouth. But always good to be aware of the signs of a severe reaction. The nurses will be monitoring you closely, so you'll be in good hands. If you suddenly get a fever or severe pain then you should call someone immediately.

Eovist is actually really common for liver MRIs. I had it for a scan last year and felt fine afterwards.

The injection site can get a bit sore. I had some redness and slight swelling, but it went away in a couple of days. No big deal, but it's something to keep an eye on.
