I was recently in the ICU and was given Dexmedetomidine 400mcg/4ml for several days. It helped me feel calm and sleepy, which was crucial for my recovery. I was able to relax without significant breathing problems, and the nurses could easily wake me up when needed. However, I did experience some side effects, including dizziness and upset stomach, but they were manageable. I'm curious to hear from others who have had similar experiences and what side effects they encountered. I've seen the side effects list and it is indeed quite extensive, but my experience was relatively mild. What was yours?

This was a game-changer for my wife when she was in the ICU. She was so anxious before this medication. It helped her relax and gave us some peace of mind as well. We didn't notice any major side effects, but the doctors did a great job monitoring her.

I'm curious if anyone else experienced any long-term effects after being administered this drug? I'm still feeling a bit dizzy and weak.

Quick question, has anyone had issues with Dexmedetomidine interacting with other medications? I'm on a few different meds and want to be prepared.

I was on a ventilator and noticed some muscle weakness and cramps. Turns out it was due to low potassium levels, which my doctor said can happen with this medication. Luckily, it resolved quickly with some potassium supplements.

I had no idea this drug was used in the ICU. I just heard about it online. Does anyone know if there are any long-term effects from receiving this medication?

I've been giving my patients this drug for years. The key with dexmedetomidine is to monitor the heart rate very closely as it can cause bradycardia. I've seen a few patients become very agitated or nervous but this is far less common.
