Diacomit (stiripentol) is a medication I am considering for a family member's severe epilepsy. It is specifically indicated for Dravet syndrome when used in conjunction with clobazam and valproate. The mechanism of action sounds promising, but the side effects list is daunting. Has anyone had experience with this medication? Were the side effects manageable, and did you see a significant reduction in seizures? The severe side effects section is particularly worrisome, especially the risk of suicidal thoughts and low blood cell counts. I would love to hear from anyone who has navigated this journey. What did your doctor recommend for monitoring and managing these potential risks?

One thing to note is that the side effects can be managed. For example, the increased saliva production was a bit annoying, but a simple change in diet helped. I'll say the trade-off with the seizure control is worth it though.

I heard that Diacomit can cause some sudden changes in mood. Is this something that anyone else experienced? My partner has had some strange reactions lately, and I'm not sure if it's the meds or not.

I've been on Diacomit for a year now, and it has significantly reduced my seizures. The side effects were tough at first, but my doctor helped me manage them.

My seizures were out of control before starting Diacomit. I had to switch to it because nothing else was working. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but it has been worth every side effect for me.

Diacomit did wonders for my daughter. The first few months were rough, but after adjusting the dosage, she's been seizure-free for almost six months. Just be patient and work closely with your doctor.

I had some weird mood swings, and it was hard to tell if it was the meds or just life. It's worth keeping an eye on, for sure.

Be careful with this one. I had to stop taking it because of the low blood cell counts. It was scary, and my doctor said it's not uncommon.

What did the doctor say about the potential for suicidal thoughts? My kid's been having a rough time.

I've seen some success with Diacomit, but it's important to start with the right regimen. Make sure you're taking it with clobazam and valproate as prescribed. It's a tough combination, but it can be worth it. My neurologist said that stiripentol increases the levels of the other seizure medicines in the body, which is why it needs to be used in combination. It’s all about finding the right balance. Make sure to have regular blood tests to monitor blood cell counts and liver function.

I'm glad to see others talking about this. I've been hesitant to bring up the side effects with my doctor, but it sounds like it's worth discussing. I'll make sure to ask about the monitoring process.
