My dentist recommended Sensorcaine 0.25% Inj, 50ml for an upcoming dental procedure. I'm a bit nervous about the potential side effects, especially the serious ones. Does anyone have experience with this medication? Any tips or advice on how to minimize side effects would be greatly appreciated. Also wondering if there are any long-term effects, since I may need this for future procedures as well. Thanks!

I had Sensorcaine during a root canal and it was fine. The only downside was that my mouth stayed numb for a few hours afterward. I couldn't eat or drink anything without spilling it everywhere. Not fun, but not dangerous either. Just plan ahead, I guess. Don't schedule this for a busy day. When they told me to expect numbness, I didn't realize it would be that intense. Get what you need in your house prepped for that.

I think the fear of side effects is way overblown. I've had multiple procedures and never had an issue. Just be calm and follow the doctor's advice. Like you know a lot about this stuff? I've never heard of methemoglobinemia, or think it's something I'd get from a local numbing.

My spouse had this during childbirth and it helped a lot. But afterwards, she complained of a metallic taste in her mouth, which was weird, and fear and worry about what else could happen. I think it's a bit scary to have something like this happen randomly, and to deal with that feeling, especially when you have a newborn. But overall, it was a game-changer for pain relief.

I had Sensorcaine during a minor surgery and it worked wonders. No side effects at all! Just make sure to follow your doctor's instructions to the letter.

I'm not sure why the side effects list includes difficulty urinating. How is that related to a local anesthetic? Seems out of place to me. I know it's to cover their bases, but still.

Seriously, what kind of drug makes you feel hot or cold? I can't imagine feeling nervous and excitable during a procedure. That sounds worse than the pain. Maybe I should just stick with Novocaine.
