I've been taking Doxepin 50mg Capsules for about 2 months now to treat my anxiety and it's been a rollercoaster. The medication has definitely helped with my anxiety levels, but I've experienced some side effects that have been challenging to deal with. At first, I felt extremely drowsy, and I had a time of dry mouth; I've been sipping water every hour. I've also had some stomach discomfort. But the worst part is the weight gain — I've gained about 10 pounds in just two months. I know it's important to take the medication as prescribed, but I'm really struggling with these side effects. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what can I do for the weight gain? Or maybe a different medication would be better? I don't have any of the serious side effects, thank goodness, but I am curious if anyone has tips for dealing with the weight gain.

I think it's important to remember that everyone's experience with medication is different. I just wanted to share that I've taken Doxepin for 6 months. It helped me control my anxiety and I didn't gain any weight. I did experience some drowsiness. The trick for that was to take it in the evening before bed. I also have tattoos. I think it's important to be aware if you're on a medication that can affect your blood chemistry.

I've heard that some people gain weight on antidepressants in general. It's not just Doxepin. Maybe it's time to consider a different type of medication or treatment?

Doxepin has been a lifesaver for my insomnia. I take a low dose before bed and it knocks me out. No anxiety, no tossing and turning. I have gained a bit of weight, but honestly, the sleep has been worth it. As for the other side effects, I just deal. If you are struggling, it could be worth talking to your doctor about adjusting the dose, ideally downwards.

I've been on Doxepin for a year now and the side effects did get better over time. I think I've found a good balance of exercise and diet to keep my weight under control. The best thing I did was cut out sugar completely. It wasn't easy, but I started feeling better. It's hard to say how much of the weight gain is from the medication, and how much is just as a result of my coping mechanisms. Give it time, and talk to your doctor about any changes you want to make.

I've been taking Doxepin for three years now. The side effects were worse at first, but they've mostly gone away now. I still get a bit tired, but it's manageable. I take it at night and it helps me sleep. But yeah, the weight gain was real. I've had to change my diet to keep it in check. I was actually worried about ringing in the ears, but thankfully, I avoided that. Just don't give up on it too quickly. You could be doing better in a week or two, like me.

I had a hard time with Doxepin, but I've had even worse experiences with other meds. My advice: stick with it for a while and see if it gets better. If not, have a chat with your doctor about adjusting the dose or switching to something else. Also, make sure to drink plenty of water if you’re experiencing dry mouth. I found that sucking on ice chips and lollipops helped me out a lot!

I wonder if the side effects could be lessened by upgrading my diet and focusing on exercise... like trying to mitigate the weight gain and the drowsiness. Might work.

I had the same issue with my psych and honestly, switching to a different medication was the best choice for me. The problem is, we all metabolise differently. So while I had side effects, someone else might be fine. Just remember that if you do switch to a different drug, it might take a while to find the right one. It was a bit of a journey for me. Hope you find something that works for you!

I had no idea Doxepin could cause weight gain. That sucks.
