I've been prescribed Elavil 50mg Tablets for nerve pain, and I've been wondering about the side effects. Has anyone else had experience with this medication? Specifically, I'm curious about the more serious side effects listed, like allergic reactions or liver problems. Are these common or rare? Also, what can I expect in terms of everyday side effects? I've heard a lot about dry mouth and drowsiness, but is that all? I'm trying to prepare for what’s to come. Thanks in advance for any insights!

I've been on Elavil for a while now and the dry mouth and drowsiness are definitely the most noticeable side effects for me. It's manageable, though. Just make sure to stay hydrated and avoid driving when you first start taking it. Drink a lot of water and it should help with the dry mouth. I also take it at night to minimize the drowsiness.

I was super nervous about the side effects too, but honestly, I've had no serious issues. A bit of constipation, but that's it. The biggest thing is just to communicate with your doctor and let them know if anything bothers you.

Side question: Has anyone experienced weight gain or loss while on Elavil? I'm already struggling with my weight and I don't want this to make it worse.

Don’t forget—rashes and hives are a big red flag. I got a rash that started as a red thing and then became massive. If you get a rash, go to the hospital ASAP.

Be careful with the constipation. If you're like me, you could run into some serious issues if you aren't careful. You might want to add some fiber to your diet or even use a stool softener as a precaution. I didn't think I'd need it, but I ended up in a bad situation and had to stop taking it for a while.

I didn't know about the weight gain side effect. I was on it for a month and gained 10 pounds. I'm glad I read the label and stopped taking it before it got worse.

I've heard some people say it really helped their depression, but I didn't find it to be as effective. I think it's important to manage your expectations and know that it might not work for everyone the same way. With depression, you never know what will work until you try it.
