I was prescribed Emflaza 6mg Tablets to treat my son's Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Emflaza is essentially a steroid medication, which in simple terms means it's designed to reduce inflammation and slow down muscle damage. This steroid has proven to be essential for the progression of his condition. However, it's crucial to take it exactly as prescribed and have no sudden disruptions, as it can cause serious issues. I've been anxiety-ridden lately reading about the possible side effects. Has anyone else experienced any unexpected side effects? Are there any strategies that you use to manage the side effects?

I just started and I have no clue what I'm doing! Should I be worried if I experience any side effects? If I take it exactly as prescribed, what are the chances something serious happens?

I have been taking this for quite a while, and I can tell you it's a relief to not have to worry about constant muscle pain and inflammation. While you definitely need to be aware of the side effects, I’m here to say that it’s been an overall positive experience. DMD is a hard condition to manage, so any relief is a blessing. If you have any side effects, don’t hesitate to reach out to your doctor. They can't help you if you don't tell them anything.

I agree, the side effects list is daunting. I've started keeping a detailed log of any changes, even small ones. It's helpful to have something to show the doctor during check-ups. Plus, it helps me feel more in control. I've also been doing some research on managing steroid therapy. I've found some great resources online about diet and exercise routines that can help mitigate some of the side effects. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it. I'd recommend it to anyone going through this.

It's important to remember that everyone's experience is different. What one person experiences might not happen to you. Staying informed and communicating openly with your healthcare provider is key. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have concerns — that's what they're there for.

I’ve been on Emflaza for a while and honestly, the side effects aren’t as bad as I thought they’d be! Just some weight gain and increased appetite, but nothing I can’t handle with a bit of dieting. Sometimes I feel like I’m battling a cold, but that’s it. I could do with some tips from others though to manage the increased appetite.
