Famciclovir 500mg Tablets: My Experience Fighting Shingles with This Antiviral
I was recently prescribed Famciclovir 500mg Tablets to treat a nasty case of shingles. I've heard mixed things about this antiviral, so I thought I'd start a thread to share my experience and hear from others who've taken it. So far, I've noticed a reduction in the pain and rash, but I've had some side effects like a headache and upset stomach. I've been taking the meds for a week now, and while it's manageable, I'm curious if anyone else has had similar experiences or any tips for dealing with the side effects. Also, I want to make sure I'm informed about the more serious side effects I should be looking out for. Thanks in advance for any advice or shared experiences!

I took Famciclovir for shingles a few years back and had no side effects at all. Everyone is different, so try not to worry too much about what you might experience.
Just started taking it yesterday for genital herpes. I hope the side effects aren't too bad. Any tips on how to deal with them?
Famciclovir is no joke, but it works. I took it for shingles and while the headache and upset stomach were annoying, the benefits were worth it. Just don’t forget to hydrate a lot and eat lighter meals and you'll feel much better.
I got shingles the year before after chemotherapy. The Famciclovir actually did wonders for me. However, I did take it with food. That helped a lot with the upset stomach problem.
I have a question for anyone who has taken this medication for genital herpes. How long did it take for the outbreak to clear up? I'm on day 3 and feeling pretty rough.
Serious question: Can you drink alcohol while on this med? I'm worried about mixing it with my usual wine night. Any advice would be appreciated!
I had shingles last year and was prescribed Famciclovir. It was tough—headaches and upset stomach were pretty bad, but I stuck with it. Just be prepared for those side effects. Keep in mind, though; it's better than dealing with the shingles rash spreading.
I've used Famciclovir for cold sores in the past, and it worked like a charm. Just make sure to finish the full course of medication even if you feel better.
I’ve taken this several times for cold sores, and it always works. But yes, the headaches can be brutal. I keep Excedrin on hand just in case. Use it in addition to your famciclovir, and you'll probably be fine.
I had a severe allergic reaction to Famciclovir. It was scary, but thankfully, I sought medical help right away. A lot of us think we'll be fine, but if you experience any rash, hives, or trouble breathing, it's best to get to an ER immediately. The only downside is that your side effects aren't just an inconvenience. They can be really serious.
