I was recently prescribed Ferriprox 1000mg twice a day to manage the excess iron in my blood due to thalassemia. I've heard a lot about how this drug can be life-saving but also comes with a host of potential side effects. I've been taking it for a few months now and wanted to share my experience. Has anyone else had issues with it? Does anyone have experience with the reddish-brown urine? It was freaky at first but I've heard that's normal? I'm curious to hear from others.

What about the bone pain? I'm tired of it. I've not been able to sleep well lately, which might be related. I'll be talking to my doctor about this soon.

I've been on Ferriprox for a year now, and while it's done wonders for my iron levels, the joint pain has been brutal. I've had to switch to a different type of pain med just to manage. It's a tradeoff, but I'll take it any day over my organs shutting down.

I had a couple of pretty bad headaches when I first started taking Ferriprox. I took it with nothing and had to completely change my diet and stopped drinking coffee. I'm not sure it was worth it or if it was just a coincidence. Now I'm good to go. But I'm definitely watching out for the other side effects. It's a high price to pay.

EDIT: I've been on this medication for awhile and I've had some pretty bad headaches. I've tried taking it with food and without and nothing has worked. I've also tried taking it at different times of the day and nothing has worked. I've talked to my doctor and he's not sure what's going on. I'm going to talk to him again soon.

Surely, you can't have learned all that there is to know about this drug, right? So why begrudge the issue of red urine? I had no clue about the reddish-brown urine turning color thing. I wrote it off as a broken kidney.

I had a bad reaction to it and had to switch to another medication. If anyone experiences any of the serious side effects like swelling of the throat or tongue, get to a doctor ASAP.

I've been taking Ferriprox for a few months and it's been doing the job. I've had some nausea in the beginning but it's been manageable. I've also had a bit of back pain but it's not too bad. I've not had any of the really serious side effects but I'm watching out for them. It's worth the risk if your organs are failing.

The stomach pain and upset stomach are pretty annoying. I've found that taking it with a light meal really helps. Has anyone else found any tricks to mitigate the side effects?

I've been on this medication for awhile now and the diarrhea has been pretty hard to deal with. It's not constant but it happens enough to be annoying. I've tried different brands of medicine and nothing has worked yet.
