I was recently prescribed Ferrous Sulfate 220mg/5ml Liquid to combat anemia, and I've had a few questions and observations that I'd like to share. First, the liquid form is surprisingly palatable; it has a slightly metallic taste, but it's not too bad. I've read about the common side effects like constipation and stomach pain, and I've personally experienced some constipation. However, I've managed to alleviate it with a fiber-rich diet. I've also noticed that my stools have turned green, which is supposedly normal. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this? Additionally, I'm worried about the serious side effects mentioned in the prescription details. Has anyone else had any severe reactions to this medication? I want to be prepared but also not overly anxious.

I had a terrible reaction to Ferrous Sulfate. I ended up with black, tarry stools and had to stop taking it immediately. It was scary, but after switching to a different iron supplement, I've had no issues. Just wanted to share my experience as a heads-up to others.

I was worried about the allergic reaction symptoms, but I haven't had any issues yet. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

I had a bad experience with Ferrous Sulfate because it gave me severe stomach cramps. Switched to a different iron supplement and it's been much better. Might be worth trying a different form if you're struggling with side effects.

I'd really appreciate some tips on making the liquid taste better. It's not pleasant at all. I've tried mixing it with orange juice, but it's still tough to get down.

The metallic taste will go away. The only way is to just deal with it, just take it wit a sip of OJ then brush your teeth after. Trust me. It's worth it to feel better.

I've been taking Ferrous Sulfate for a few months now, and the green stools freaked me out at first, but my doctor reassured me it's normal due to the iron content. Just wants to make sure you are monitoring for serious side effects as well.

Never had an iron supplement, but I've got a question! How long does it take to see improvements in iron levels? Several weeks? Few months?

I’ve noticed that taking it with food helps with the stomach issues. Be careful not to drink tea or coffee at the same time, though. It can reduce the absorption of iron!
